Updates:  
July 10, 2017: We are pleased to announce that Robert Braun is the winner of the 2017 APSA Human Rights Section Best Dissertation Award for his dissertation, “Religious Minorities and Resistance to Genocide: Christian Protection of Jews in the Low Countries during the Holocaust." Congratulations, Robert!

October 8, 2016:  Harvard's Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study is hosting a roundtable next week (October 13) titled "Families in Flight: A Look at Today's International Refugee Crisis."  For more information and to register for the event, click here

August 1, 2016: APSA is right around the corner!  Our business meeting will be held Friday Sept 2, 12:00pm-1:30pm at the Marriott, Rm. 407.  We will be holding elections, so please attend.  Our reception also will be held that evening, from 6-7:30, at Caribou Cafe (1126 Walnut St, a 7-8 min walk from the Convention Center and Marriott). Our reception will feature the presentation of our Best Book and Distinguished Scholar awards, light hors d'oeuvres, and an open bar. 

June 18, 2016Grand Valley State University will host the Great Lakes History Conference and Conference on the Americas on October 21-22, 2016 in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  The theme is Human Rights in the Atlantic World and Beyond. For more information, including the call for papers, click here

January 5, 2016: Nominations for our section's four awards--Best Book, Best Dissertation, Best Paper (presented at the 2015 Annual Meeting) and Distinguished Scholar--are due on March 1, 2016.  Descriptions of all awards as well as selection committee membership can be found under the Awards tab, above.  Please send all nominations directly to the committee members.

November 4, 2015:  If you or your students are interested in participating in Amnesty International's Write for Rights Campaign, you can find out more here.  The letter writing campaign runs from Dec. 4-18, 2015, although AI welcomes letters at any time.  If you are thinking about doing this as an activity in your class, check out the Educator's Guide here.

November 2, 2015:  Submissions are now being accepted for the 5th Joint Human Rights Conference, co-sponsored by the human rights sections of APSA, ISA, IPSA and the ECPR Standing Group on Human Rights and Transitional Justice.  The conference will take place on June 13-15, 2016 in New York City.  The conference theme is "Human Rights in an Age of Ambiguity."  More details are available under the "Section-Sponsored Conferences Tab" above and at http://www.isanet.org/Conferences/HR-NYC-2016.

October 20, 2015:  The Western Political Science Association has invited the APSA human rights section to participate in a set of human rights-themed panels at the 2016 convention (March 24-26 in San Diego).  More information and the CFP is available under the "Section-Sponsored Conferences Tab" above.  

October 2, 2015:  The Inter-American Human Rights Network (IAHRN) invites submissions to an upcoming workshop in Ghent, Belgium, from January 29-30, 2016, on "What to Learn from International Human Rights System."  More information is available under the "Other Conferences" tab, above, and on the IAHRN website. 

August 28, 2015:  Please join us for our sections's meeting and reception at this year's annual convention in San Francisco.  We will be meeting from 12:30-1:30 pm in the Hilton Sutter Room.  Our section reception will be on Saturday, Sept. 5, from 7:00-8:30 pm in the Hilton Powell Room.  We also have a great lineup of panels again this year and are looking forward to lively and productive conversations about human rights and human rights research and teaching.  

April 29, 2015:  The Inter-American Human Rights Network has issued a call for papers for an upcoming conference (October 9-10, London) on institutional change in the Inter-American human rights system.  For more details, click on the "Other Conferences" tab, above, or view the CFP here.

April 2, 2015:  The deadline for nominations for the section's Best Paper (from the 2014 Conference), Best Book and Best Dissertation awards has been extended to April 15, 2015.  Click on the Section Awards tab, above, for more details.

March 24, 2015:  The APSA Human Rights section is sponsoring a pre-Annual Convention workshop on teaching human rights.  You can find out more by clicking on the "Section-Sponsored Conferences" above.  The deadline for applying for the workshop is April 16, 2015.

March 3, 2015:  The deadline for the CFP for the Social Practice of Human Rights conference at the University of Dayton's Human Rights Center has been extended to March 20, 2015.  You can find out more by clicking on the "Other Conferences" tab, above.

February 24, 2015:  Just a friendly reminder that all of the APSA human rights section award submission deadlines are coming up on March 1, 2015.  You can find out more details by clicking on the "Awards" tab, above. 

February 9, 2015:  Don't forget to register for the 2015 Joint ISA Human Rights Conference, for which APSA HR is a sponsor, by February 15.  More details and the link to register are available here.
